Building your wedding budget

Before you get too deep into planning and realize you’re in over your head in invoices, plan out your budget and what you expect to spend on each vendor that will be a part of making your wedding day come alive.

Consider what your necessities are. What are some things that you absolutely do not want to go without on your wedding day? Is there a specific vendor you have in mind? A couple things you know you absolutely do not want to miss at your wedding? What are they? What can you expect to spend? What are the average prices in the area for the level of quality that you are looking for? Your must haves are a big part of building your budget, because once you define the things you do not want to go without, then you can start building around those costs and adding in other things that are wants.

What are your resources? What vendors do you already have connections with? Do you have any family members/friends that know people? Do you have any hookups with certain things (NOT PHOTOGRAPHERS, VIDEOGRAPHERS, OR COORDINATORS). Tread carefully on this one… Do not fall into the “friendor” catastrophe that is inevitable.

After you have identified these two things consider what you can pay out of pocket and what you are willing to go into debt for. Wedding debt can add up quickly and the last thing that is good for a new marriage is financial stress, so tread carefully on the debt subject. If possible, save up, recruit family that is going to gift certain vendors and front the cost, and figure out what payment schedules will work for you.

Now… Start adding everything up!
