Into the Woods

Deep maroons + greens balances with ivory, sage, olive, and rust

Katrina and TJ were a dream from the beginning of their planning process. As full planning clients, I absolutely loved the fact that TJ was so involved and truly wanted to be present in their wedding planning process. He literally even made his own Pinterest board! Did we use some of his pinned ideas for their wedding? We sure as hell did! Anytime we get a groom who truly cares about the planning process and has an even more unconditional love/care for his future bride, we take full advantage!

We planned Katrina and TJ’s wedding in only a matter of a few months. With the craziness that the big C-word brought to everyone, we decided from the get-go to do a mini wedding and keep the guest count low. We went into the process knowing we would have about 35 guests attending and honestly I miss those mini wedding days. They were so sweet and so intimate. You actually got to spend time with each person who was attending rather than pretty much doing speed dating during dinner, trying to get to each table to say a quick “hi” and “thanks for coming”.

Our main focus with this wedding was the venue and the photographer. We booked those line items almost immediately, if I’m remembering correctly they actually already had Hidden Oaks booked when they came to me. With it being such a small wedding, we were able to knock quite a bit out and fast. Design was the fun part, as usual.

Our company had just purchased our boutique rental pieces and we used our Turned Leg Farm Tables to really bring in the rich elegance of a moody and rustic romantic wedding. When I do my designing I start with the base and work my way through the details. The tables were paired with a pigeon gray gauze runner + a rust gauze runner layered on top, a suuuper lush floral garland, and for lighting they opted for assorted mason jars with tea lights in them. I can’t remember the exact number but I am almost positive that on only 6 tables we used 150 mason jars! It was a cute rustic touch while still encompassing the romantic side of the design. If I’m doing a rustic wedding, you better believe it’s going to be elevated.

Another aspect of design that we never skip on is making sure the table settings look well thought out and full. We included full glassware, flatware, china, and linen napkins. Honestly, it should be illegal to use paper napkins at a wedding, on the place settings. Our slate blue linen napkin was knotted and paired with a menu to finish off the full look. We opted for a slate blue to add contrast to the maroon florals and balance out the color palette.

Initially, we wanted to have tons of market lighting in the tree top canopies and a river bed filled with candles BUT the weather had other plans for us. This day got completely rained out. Luckily we snagged a tent (for the reception only) as soon as the weather report began hinting towards showers. Tents ended up selling out that weekend! Everyone setting up got absolutely poured on. I 100% looked like a wet dog before the wedding even started. One huge tip for a rainy day wedding is to put garbage bags over the ceremony chairs and leave them on until the very last second. That way guests don’t sit in puddles. This ceremony site didn’t allow for a tent because of all the trees around it.

The rain was literally pouring SIDEWAYS! Yet, by the grace of God, it stopped raining for exactly 30 minutes for the ceremony. Seriously it was timing I couldn’t have planned better myself.

Overall, the wedding was absolutely stunning and Katy and TJ had a blast with their close friends and family. Everyone gushed about how sweet they looked and seriously the rain pictures were the icing on the cake. Those two didn’t let a rainy day bring them down and it was a testament of true love not being able to be stopped!
